Trump reacts in disgust on Truth Social after Biden sees no charges in documents case

AP

Donald Trump lashed out at President Joe Biden and the Department of Justice in an all-caps Truth Social rant after the news came that Mr Biden will face no charges following allegations that he mishandled classified documents.

“WOW! FAKE NEWS CNN, THROUGH A LEAK FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF INJUSTICE, HAS JUST REPORTED THAT NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED IN THE (MUCH BIGGER THAN MINE!!!) CROOKED JOE BIDEN DOCUMENTS CASE. WE ARE LIVING IN A VERY CORRUPT COUNTRY!” Mr Trump thundered on his floundering social media platform.

The special counsel in the case, Robert Hur, isn’t expected to charge anyone linked to the alleged mishandling of classified documents at two places connected to Mr Biden, two people told CNN.

Mr Hur and his fellow investigators are writing a report after concluding their investigation, which lasted around a year, with the prosecutors expected to issue a critical assessment of Mr Biden and his staff for how they handled the sensitive documents.

Mr Hur has been working on the case since January when he was appointed to investigate the issue of classified documents from Mr Biden’s two terms as vice president being discovered at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, and at his former office at the Penn Biden Center in Washington DC.

On Thursday morning, The Wall Street Journal was first to report that while Mr Biden was expected to face substantial criticism for his handling of sensitive materials, a criminal case was unlikely to be brought.

Mr Hur has interviewed around 100 of Mr Biden’s aides, colleagues and members of his family, including his son Hunter Biden. Last month, the office of the special counsel spoke to Mr Biden himself over the course of two days.

Mr Trump and his allies have attempted to compare the former president’s alleged mishandling of classified documents, which has led to a litany of criminal charges, to Mr Biden’s case despite that there are substantial differences.

The National Archives tried on numerous occasions to get Mr Trump to return sensitive documents that he had taken with him when leaving the White House, finally leading to the FBI executing a search warrant at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago private club in Florida.

Meanwhile, Mr Biden’s lawyers immediately made the National Archives aware of the discovery when they found the classified documents.

The news prompted plenty of reaction on social media, with political blogger Jeff Tiedrich writing on X: “Listen up, stupids: Joe Biden found classified documents and alerted the DOJ. That’s why he’s not getting charged.

“Mike Pence found classified docs and alerted the FBI. That’s why he didn’t get charged.

“Donald Trump stole classified documents, hid them, lied about them, moved them, sorted through them, stashed them in the s****er at his deteriorating Florida golf motel, scrawled to-do lists on them, bragged about them to his golf cronies, waved them in the faces of randos at his tacky vermin-infested Bedminster wife cemetery, and told the butler and the pool boy to destroy evidence of them — and that’s why your guy is super f****** f*********.”

Allison Gill of the Mueller, She Wrote podcast wrote in January: “This is easy. Trump broke the law. Biden did not. Trump will be indicted. Biden will not. Enjoy your weekend.”

On Thursday, she added: “Told ya. No charges will be filed in the special counsel investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents.”
