President Donald Trump questioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s warnings about Iran hours before their White House meeting Tuesday, but Netanyahu emerged from the 90-minute talks describing an "excellent" discussion grounded in "full partnership" and "mutual support."
Trump Questions Netanyahu’s Public Iran Warnings
Trump publicly downplayed reported Iranian activity at Pickaxe Mountain, a deeply buried site near the damaged Natanz nuclear complex. "I know exactly what’s going on at Pickaxe," Trump told Fox News, calling it "not a big problem" and saying, "Bibi’s telling me that because he wants me to stay involved."
"Why do you have to announce to the world?" Trump added, exposing strains before his first face-to-face meeting with Netanyahu since the United States and Israel launched their joint war against Iran in February.
Leaders Project Unity After White House Talks
Afterward, Trump called the talks a "very good meeting" where "many important subjects were discussed." White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the discussion as "positive and productive."

Netanyahu offered a warmer assessment according to an Associated Press report. "When I say excellent, I don’t mean it in a superficial way," he said in Hebrew. He described "a conversation with full partnership, with mutual support, with an understanding of the common goal of ensuring that Iran does not have nuclear weapons."
Iran War Raises Stakes For Both Leaders
The meeting came nearly five months into a conflict that has restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, pushed oil prices higher and cost the Pentagon an estimated $37.5 billion. Lawmakers have pressed the administration for a clearer strategy and endgame as public war fatigue grows.
Iran later launched multiple ballistic missiles at U.S. forces in the Middle East, but the military intercepted them, according to the Associated Press. The attack ended a brief pause and highlighted the risks facing Trump as he pursues negotiations aimed at ending the war while retaining military options.
An Israeli official said Netanyahu told Trump that Israel would respond if Iran attacked it but would otherwise defer to the president’s judgment. Netanyahu had already acknowledged Sunday that, "in many ways, it’s his decision."
The leaders also discussed Lebanon, Gaza and expanding the Abraham Accords. Their meeting served both as an attempt to repair a strained alliance and as a test of whether Trump can turn battlefield pressure into a settlement without allowing Iran to rebuild its nuclear program.
