NEW YORK_A study by Vox of three of President Donald Trump's properties has found a stunning lack of American labor, with foreign guest workers filling in every seasonal position with one exception.
According to recruiting files sent to the U.S. Department of Labor by Mar-a-Lago, Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla., and Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., 144 jobs were open from 2016 to 2017.
Workers possessing H-2B visas would reportedly be given 143 of them, operating in such roles as servers, bartenders and housekeepers.
The sole American worker was hired as a cook.
H-2B visas are given out when employers make an effort to employ Americans for seasonal, non-agricultural work at establishments such as hotels or resorts but can't find interested or qualified candidates who are local.
In the case of Mar-a-Lago, where staff made anywhere from $10.33 to $13.43 an hour, the hiring manager reported that just seven Americans responded to an ad regarding work, but they either weren't experienced enough or they simply weren't interested.
"Why are we having all these people from s_thole countries come here?" Trump reportedly griped during an Oval Office meeting Thursday afternoon.
At Trump's Briarcliff Manor property, no Americans apparently wanted to work there, as not a single application was received.
In 2017, his administration got the cap raised on H-2B visas and three days later Trump properties put in a request to bring on 76 guest workers.
