- President Donald Trump has announced plans for a promenade that would extend from the Lincoln Memorial down to the Potomac River.
- He was speaking at a Oval Office briefing about investments in coal when he said he had some “breaking news” to report.
- “We’re doing something that just came up, we have a little breaking news here,” Trump said. “We’re going to be doing a promenade at the Lincoln Memorial. They want to call it the Trump promenade.”
- "I don't know if I want to do that, but it's going to be beautiful," Trump continued. “At the Lincoln Memorial, the front was supposed to be the back, and the back was supposed to be the front. [The promenade] never got built, because they built two roadways behind it.”
- Trump's latest announcement is part of a broader push to reshape Washington's monumental core. He also plans to erect a 250-foot (76-meter) arch and to build a 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the site of the demolished East Wing of the White House.
