Trump ordered lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about Moscow hotel project: report

President Donald Trump told his attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about his efforts during the 2016 campaign to move forward on a Moscow hotel tower project, BuzzFeed News reported Thursday.

Trump supported a plan set up by Cohen to meet with Vladimir Putin in Moscow during the campaign to get the tower negotiations off the ground.

"Make it happen," Trump told Cohen, according to two sources the online publication identified as "federal law enforcement officials."

"Trump and his children, Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project," the report said.

Cohen has already pleaded guilty to lying to Congress for saying the negotiations ended in January 2016. He now says the talks extended months longer.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Trump's lead lawyer in the investigation into possible Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election, told The New York Daily News last month that Trump doesn't remember when the negotiations stopped.

The Moscow Trump tower would have included condominiums, hotel rooms and commercial space.
