Trump on Iran Nuclear Talks: ‘I think we can have some good news’

President Trump shared hopeful thoughts on Sunday about the ongoing talks with Iran concerning its nuclear program. Speaking to reporters in Morristown, New Jersey, before leaving for Washington, D.C., he suggested that recent discussions had gone well and hinted that good news might be coming soon. This follows the end of the fifth round of negotiations in Rome between U.S. and Iranian representatives.

According to The Hill, Trump’s cautiously optimistic remarks come after both sides described the latest round of talks as constructive. While Trump’s administration had earlier pulled the U.S. out of a nuclear deal made under the Obama administration, the current discussions are focused on limiting Iran’s nuclear program and reducing the risk of conflict.

Reports indicate that Iranian officials also gave a positive review of the talks, calling them “professional” and suggesting there was a “reasonable path” forward. The next round of negotiations will be scheduled after both sides review the proposals discussed in Rome.

Trump thinks Iran nuclear talks are going well

Trump’s comments went beyond the Iran nuclear talks. He also mentioned productive discussions with Hamas about Gaza and ongoing talks with Israel. He connected his hopeful outlook on Iran to his broader foreign policy strategy, emphasizing a preference for diplomacy over conflict and a desire for peaceful solutions.

While addressing the Iran situation, Trump also spoke about other policy issues. He expressed frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin and showed confidence that his proposed tax cuts, which he called “big, beautiful,” would eventually pass, even if they undergo minor or major changes in the Senate.

He noted that House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune were working together on the bill and remained hopeful about its success despite some conservative senators expressing doubts. The possibility of progress in the Iran nuclear talks comes at a time of rising global tensions. Trump seems to keep saying Iran deals are going well, like they’re “soft of” agreeing to things, and that may mean the several meetings between U.S. and Iranian negotiators are going well.
