1. Trump doubles, triples, quadruples down on Isis remark

Given a chance to clarify comments calling President Obama the “founder” of Isis, Trump doubled down on his literal interpretation, calling the president Isis’s “most valuable player”.

Summary

Isis is honoring President Obama. He is the founder of Isis. He founded Isis. And, I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton.

2. Clinton builds infrastructure, bashes Trump

In a fiery speech that sharply criticized her opponent’s economic vision, Hillary Clinton said Trump’s proposals will only benefit the rich, while destroying the economy in tandem.

Summary

I can’t imagine what would have happened to my father and his business if he had gotten a contract from Trump. My father never could have sued a big organization like that! I just don’t understand it. I’ve met all kinds of workers ... all of whom were denied payment and after going back time and again, being told ‘okay, maybe we’ll pay you 30 cents on the dollar, or 50 cents on the dollar’ – that’s just not how we do business in America.

Summary

Your glib and horrifying comment about ‘Second Amendment people’ was heard around the world. It was heard by sane and decent people who shudder at your fondness for verbal violence. It was heard by your supporters, many of whom gleefully and angrily yell, ‘Lock her up!’ at your rallies. It was heard by the person sitting alone in a room, locked in his own dark fantasies, who sees unbridled violence as a way to make his mark in the world, and is just looking for ideas.

4. Report: More trouble to come from DNC hack

The New York Times reports that the hacking of the DNC email servers may have just been the tip of the iceberg, with more than 100 accounts of Democratic officials potentially breached.

A new poll from Public Policy Polling shows Trump leading Clinton in blood-red South Carolina by a mere two points, an indication that the Republican’s campaign is in serious trouble.

… and another thing:

Note:

Yesterday, the Minute amended an item that referred to Secret Service discussions with the Trump campaign, which the Guardian was not able to independently verify. As we work to verify the claim, we apologize for the error.

5. Trump (belatedly) adds women to economic council

After criticism for an economic advisory council composed of 13 white men – with six named Steve – Trump’s campaign announced the addition of nine more people, eight of whom are women.
