US president Donald Trump returned to the White House on Monday night

Donald Trump has ordered his aides to stop coronavirus stimulus talk with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats before the election, a move that has caused waves already with the US economy and stock market.

In a tweet, Mr Trump said talks would not resume until after he “wins” the upcoming election. Americans have pushed for Republicans and Democrats to reach an agreement so they could receive necessary stimulus money.

US stocks ended down more than 1 per cent.

This comes as top military leaders in the Trump administration are quarantining after the vice commandant of the US Coast Guard tested positive for Covid-19.

Members of the Joint of Chiefs were in a meeting with the vice commandant earlier this week.

The ever-growing list of White House staff and members of the Trump administration has only grown longer following the news last week of Mr Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and senior aide Hope Hicks all testing positive for Covid-19.

Senior Policy adviser Stephen Miller was the latest to announce a positive test result late on Tuesday evening.
