Trump news – live: Jan 6 committee ‘aware’ of White House call to rioter as ex-president facing legal peril

Former US president Donald Trump claims he can declassify top secret documents just ‘by thinking about it’

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton has likened Donald Trump’s supporters to those who supported the Nazi party following a single finger salute at a recent rally held by the former president.

Ms Clinton, who was speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival, said her reaction to the “QAnon” index finger salute was similar to how she used to feel about Nazis, adding: “What’s going on?”

Her comments came as the House select committee investigating January 6 prepares to reconvene on Wednesday in what US Rep Adam Schiff has said will be “more sweeping” than prior hearings.

Mr Schiff said his committee would come to a unanimous decision on whether or not it recommends criminal charges following its investigation.

The comments came as new excerpts from Maggie Haberman’s interviews with Mr Trump reveal the former president’s thoughts on spurious voter fraud lawsuits, the Capitol riot and key Republican figures.
