Trump names Robert Blair special representative on international telecommunications policy

President Trump has named one of his assistants and senior advisor to chief of staff Mick Mulvaney as special representative for International Telecommunications Policy, per a press release Monday.

The big picture: The White House says Robert Blair was chosen to help "promote a secure and reliable global communications system." Blair will continue to serve in his current roles.


  • Blair's background includes work in defense programs at the Office of Management and Budget and serving as staff for the House Appropriations Committee.

Of note: Blair is one of the witnesses Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called to testify in an impeachment trial against Trump.
