Trump-Musk feud: President tours Florida’s ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ after doubling down on DOGE threat to former ‘first buddy’

President Donald Trump suggested he would “take a look” into deporting his former ally, Elon Musk, after the Tesla CEO, a naturalized U.S. citizen, renewed criticism of the president’s “Big Beautiful” domestic policy bill.

He also doubled down on threats to have DOGE look at Musk’s government contracts, calling the department previously run by the tech billionaire a “monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”

Trump spoke with reporters both as he departed the White House and as he arrived at a new immigration detention facility in the Florida Everglades, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz.”

The president toured the new facility with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Musk and Trump’s relationship fizzled out in June when the tech billionaire left the White House on poor terms after his outspoken criticism of the president's signature tax and spending bill.

The two traded barbs on social media with Trump calling Musk “crazy” and Musk accusing the president of being named in the government’s investigation of Jeffrey Epstein.

Their feud resurfaced overnight as senators struggled to pass Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which Musk believes will bankrupt the U.S.

Trump’s DOJ wants to denaturalize citizens. Can he do that?

21:10 , Oliver O'Connell

A recently unveiled memo from the Department of Justice indicates Donald Trump’s administration plans to “maximally pursue” denaturalization of American citizens, marking a radical expansion of the president’s anti-immigration agenda.

According to the June 11 memo, the Justice Department’s civil division will “prioritize and maximally pursue denaturalization proceedings in all cases permitted by law and supported by the evidence.”

Alex Woodward explains what that means.

Tesla stock drops as Trump and Musk reignite their feud

20:40 , Oliver O'Connell

Tesla’s stock price dropped 4.9 percent by midday Tuesday following a suggestion by President Donald Trump that government subsidies for Elon Musk’s companies, such as Tesla, should be reviewed by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which Musk used to lead.

The plunge arrived in the middle of a renewed feud between the president and the world’s richest man after Musk attacked Trump’s congressional spending package and threatened to form a new political party.

ICYMI: Elon Musk promises to fund campaigns against Republicans who vote for Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful’ bill

20:12 , Oliver O'Connell

Elon Musk promised to bankroll primary challenges against Republican lawmakers who vote to pass legislation representing a sizable portion of Donald Trump’s political agenda on Monday as the Senate debated its final passage.

The Tesla CEO and former DOGE overlord blew up at Trump and the Republican Congress over the bill earlier this year. Musk, along with Republicans like Rand Paul in the Senate, believe that the bill’s spending cuts are insufficient to fund its other provisions and point to projections of trillions added to the national debt over the next decade as reason it should be opposed.

After visiting 'Alligator Alcatraz,' Trump reiterates wish to reopen original Alcatraz

20:00 , Oliver O'Connell

President Donald Trump seems to be inspired by his visit to the new Florida migrant detention center dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” and has reiterated his desire to reopen the original Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay.

Writing on Truth Social, the president said:

Because of the Violence and Criminality I have seen due to the Open Border Policy of Sleepy Joe Biden, in particular allowing millions of people into our Country who shouldn’t be here, I wanted something representative to show how we fight back, and then, it happened, I saw a picture of ALCATRAZ looking so foreboding, and I said, “We’re going to look into renovating and rebuilding the famous ALCATRAZ Prison sitting high on the Bay, surrounded by sharks. What a symbol it is, and will be!” Conceptual work started six months ago, and various prison development firms are looking at doing it with us. Still a little early, but lots of promise!

Originally a military fortification, lighthouse, and military prison, Alcatraz Island was converted into the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary in 1934. As strong tidal currents and cold water surround it, escape was thought to be close to impossible.

The prison closed on March 21, 1963, leaving the island a major tourist attraction today.

While Trump claims conceptual work has been underway for his entire presidency, as Justin Baragona reported in May, he announced the idea of reopening the prison just hours after the movie Escape from Alcatraz aired on a South Florida PBS station.

DeSantis says new Florida detention center should encourage migrants to self deport

19:55 , Oliver O'Connell

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says the new “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center is intended to intimidate migrants into leaving the U.S. voluntarily. The governor suggested that individuals in the country without legal status should choose to return to their home countries rather than risk being detained and transferred to the Florida facility.

“Why would you want to come to Alligator Alcatraz if you can just go home on your own?” the governor asked.

DeSantis indicated this aligns with the Trump administration's encouragement for migrants to “self-deport” as a means to preserve the opportunity for future re-entry into the US.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reiterated that if the government formally deports individuals, they are then barred from ever returning to the country.

Trump threatens Musk with DOGE investigation

19:40 , Oliver O'Connell

Donald Trump has threatened to use Elon Musk’s own Department of Government Efficiency to investigate federal subsidies received by the tech billionaire’s companies.

Nearly a month after their explosive breakup, Trump reignited his public rift with Musk late Monday in response to the Tesla CEO escalating his anti-Republican rhetoric and his scathing criticism of the president’s showpiece tax bill. The president also suggested that Musk may need to ‘close up shop and go back to South Africa’ without his support.

DeSantis dismisses environmental concerns about detention center

19:22 , Oliver O'Connell

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has dismissed environmental concerns surrounding the new “Alligator Alcatraz” detention facility being constructed in the Everglades, asserting that those protesting its potential impact are simply opposed to deportations.

The facility is being assembled using tents and trailers on an existing airstrip. This construction method means it has not required the laying of new concrete or the erection of permanent new buildings.

President Donald Trump echoed DeSantis’s stance, also expressing no concern about the project’s ecological implications.

“I don’t think you’re doing anything to the Everglades, you’re just enhancing it,” Trump stated.

The remarks come as environmental groups raise alarms over the potential impact of the new detention centre on the sensitive Everglades ecosystem.

Trump says he will ‘take a look’ at deporting Musk

19:10 , Oliver O'Connell

President Donald Trump has suggested that the country’s immigration enforcement apparatus could be turned against now-former ally Elon Musk after the Tesla executive renewed criticism of the tax and spending megabill on which the president has bet his legislative agenda.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday as he departed the White House to visit an immigration detention facility in Florida, the president was asked if Musk, a naturalized American citizen who originally hails from South Africa, could be deported in retaliation for his attacks on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act under debate in the Senate.

“I don’t know,” he replied. “We’ll have to take a look.”

A gruesome story from Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem:

“The other day, I was talking to some marshals that have been partnering with ICE. They said that they had detained a cannibal and put him on a plane to take him home, and while they had him in his seat, he started to eat himself, and they had to get him off and get him medical attention. These are the kind of deranged individuals that are on our streets in America that we're trying to target and get out of our country because they are so deranged, they don't belong here, and they don't go they shouldn't be walking the streets with our children, and they shouldn't be living in the communities with our families who just want to grow up, go to job good, raise their children to grow up and get a job and to live the American dream.”

He should

1) Build Mars colonization tech, including lots of robots.

2) Support DOGEing the shit out of USG.

3) Leave politics to people vastly lower on the autism spectrum.

He added:

Trump was also reminded that in 2018, he had joked about putting alligators in the Rio Grande.

Musk says spending bill enables abuse of power by president

15:38 , Oliver O'Connell

Elon Musk has posted a new poll to his X account:

Removal of funding for enforcement of federal contempt of court orders is the actual crux of this spending bill.

This is nominally aimed at removal of illegal immigrants, but obviously also enables many other abuses of power by the President.

Should this be allowed?

Unfortunately for Musk, on June 21, the Senate parliamentarian ruled that this provision should not be included in the budget reconciliation bill, and it was subsequently removed.

He may be feuding with Elon Musk, but Donald Trump's political machine has swung into operation against Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky, in an attempt to oust the lawmaker from his seat.

The escalating feud is rooted in Rep. Massie's consistent defiance of the Trump agenda. His recent opposition includes denouncing the administration's strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and a refusal to back key presidential legislation.

Elon Musk re-posted a video on X that set the record straight about his feelings toward electric vehicle mandates after Trump claimed that Musk was angry at him because of EV mandates.

“Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president went on to claim Musk gets “more subsidy than any human being in history” and said without them, Musk would have to “close up shop and head back home to South Africa”

Hours later, Musk reposted the video in which he acknowledges that EV mandates would likely disappear under Trump but that it would actually help Tesla.

“If you eliminated all EV incentives tomorrow, Tesla's competitive position would improve significantly,” Trump said in the 2022 interview clip.
