Elon Musk has said he regrets some of his social media posts about President Donald Trump, in a dramatic about-turn after a days-long public fight between them.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk said on his X platform.
In an interview recorded before Musk’s apology, the president did not rule out the possibility of a reconciliation between the pair.
“Look, I have no hard feelings,” he said in an interview for the podcast Pod Force One, recorded on Monday.
Sources close to Musk told Reuters that his anger has started to subside, and they believe he may want to repair his relationship with Trump.
The latest post from the world’s richest man appears to be an attempt to de-escalate the feud that began last week and rapidly descended into an acrimonious tit-for-tat.
Musk said on his social media platform X that Trump’s name appears in files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, later deleting that tweet.
Trump retaliated by threatening to withdraw multi-billion-dollar government contracts from Musk’s businesses.

Some Tesla owners sue Elon Musk’s company for damaging their reputation
15:20 , Gustaf KilanderCharlotte Van Campenhout writes:
A group of Tesla owners in France is suing Elon Musk's car company, alleging its vehicles have become "far-right totems" that are harming their reputation, according to the law firm representing the group.
The group is seeking to terminate their lease contracts and recover legal costs at the Paris Commercial Court, citing the "direct and concrete" harm caused by Musk's public behaviour after he rallied in support of Donald Trump's presidential bid and Germany's far-right AfD party.
The lawsuit comes amid plummeting Tesla sales in key European markets, including France, Britain, Germany, and Italy, partly in protest of Musk's political activities and as customers favour Chinese electric vehicles due to their competitive prices.

VOICES: Elon Musk was no match for Donald Trump – but his humiliation might be only just beginning
15:00 , Gustaf KilanderSean O’Grady writes:
Was he right? A few days ago, Elon Musk declared of his war of words with Donald Trump that “the most entertaining outcome is the most likely”. Does a capitulation count?
Surely not. The world found a kind of grim solace in the great Trump-Musk fall-out, and was greatly looking forward to further shocking developments in social media’s first soap opera. Would Elon tell us more about why he had alleged – before he deleted his post – that Trump was in the Epstein files? What did Musk see going on in the Trump White House? Is Trump as deranged as he seems, or is Elon – as Donald alleges – suffering from Trump derangement syndrome?

Trump says he'll work with Xi 'to open up China to American Trade'
14:45 , Gustaf KilanderTrump added to the readout of his call with Chinese leaders Xi Jinping, saying on Truth Social that “President XI and I are going to work closely together to open up China to American Trade.”
“This would be a great WIN for both countries!!!” he added.
This comes after Trump announced that American and Chinese negotiators in London had struck a deal to avert the trade war he had been stoking against Beijing since returning to office in January.
In an early-morning, all-caps post on Truth Social, Trump claimed the deal was “done” pending a “final approval” by him and Xi.

Inflation remaineds steady amid 'Liberation Day' tariffs
14:16 , Rhian LubinInflation held steady last month, according to data that gives the first glimpse of how prices are faring since President Donald Trump’s sweeping “Liberation Day” tariffs.
Consumer prices rose 0.1 percent on a monthly basis in May, while annual inflation stood at 2.4 percent, according to the Department of Labor’s consumer price index.
The report captures the period after Trump unveiled his global reciprocal tariffs in April and provides insight as to whether businesses are bearing the brunt of the duties themselves or passing them on to customers.

13:32 , Rachel ClunDonald Trump said he just wants to be a “great president”, speaking in an interview for the Pod Force One podcast recorded on Monday.
Asked how he wanted to be seen, the president said: “I’d just like to be a great president.”
He continued: “You know, things take weird turns. You end up in a war when you never thought you were going to win the war, but you end up in wars, and you end up in peace, and you end up in lots of different circumstances that you didn't know were going to happen.
“I’d just like to be a great President, do a great job for the people in the country.”

Trump claims China-U.S. trade deal is 'DONE'
13:11 , Rachel ClunDonald Trump claims the trade negotiations with China are “DONE”, potentially ending a trade war sparked when the president announced he was ratcheting up tariffs on Chinese goods by more than 100 percent.
“OUR DEAL WITH CHINA IS DONE, SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL WITH PRESIDENT XI AND ME,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“FULL MAGNETS, AND ANY NECESSARY RARE EARTHS, WILL BE SUPPLIED, UP FRONT, BY CHINA. LIKEWISE, WE WILL PROVIDE TO CHINA WHAT WAS AGREED TO, INCLUDING CHINESE STUDENTS USING OUR COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES (WHICH HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD WITH ME!).
He continued: “WE ARE GETTING A TOTAL OF 55% TARIFFS, CHINA IS GETTING 10%. RELATIONSHIP IS EXCELLENT! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!”
Earlier, commerce secretary Howard Lutnick said officials from Washington and Beijing had agreed on a framework to de-escalate trade tensions between the countries, following the end of talks in London on Tuesday.
Analysis: Elon Musk’s crash-out likely guaranteed passage of Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’
12:51 , Rachel ClunHad Elon Musk kept his critiques strictly to Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, the tech tycoon could have offered an effective counterweight to give conservatives leverage against leadership given his immense wealth and his wide reach as owner of X.
But the world’s richest man chose to blow that to smithereens when he turned the attacks personal, Washington Bureau Chief Eric Garcia writes:

Elon Musk’s feud likely will get Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’ passed
Trump says Musk and Bessent fight was a ‘typical’ shouting match
12:26 , Rachel ClunDonald Trump denies reports that Elon Musk and treasury secretary Scott Bessent had a “fist fight” following a White House meeting.
Earlier this week Trump’s former political adviser Steve Bannon claimed that Musk body checked Bessent “like a rugby player” during an incident in the White House in mid-April and Bessent hit the tech billionaire back, before the pair was broken up by multiple people.
Asked about that altercation in an interview for podcast Pod Force One, Trump said: “Well, they had not a fist fight, you know, but I guess they had a little bit of a shouting match. That's typical.”
His comments come after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shut down rumors of a physical altercation, saying it was a “disagreement.”

His comments came before Musk tweeted an apology for some of his public comments.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” he said on X in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Before apology, Musk shares support of White House response to LA riots
11:16 , Rachel ClunThe first signs that Elon Musk was trying to wind back his attack on president Donald Trump came with the Tesla boss’s support of the administration’s response to the LA riots.
On Sunday, he shared a post on X from Trump calling on Californian governor Gavin Newsom to “apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job they have done”.
Musk also retweeted many posts supporting the White House’s unilateral decision to deploy National Guard troops to the city to quell the protests.

What did Elon Musk stand to lose in ongoing feud with Donald Trump?
10:33 , Rachel ClunAs the bitter public fight between two of the world’s most powerful men continued, the president threatened to cancel all of Musk’s business contracts with the federal government.
Earlier this year, the Washington Post estimated that Musk and his businesses including SpaceX have received over the years at least $38 billion in government contracts, subsidies, tax credits and loans.
Since 2015, Musk’s SpaceX company alone has received more than $13 billion in Nasa contracts, Newsweek reports, and is one of the space agency’s largest private partnerships.

Those contracts include crew launch services and International Space Station supply services.
The Department of Defense also has several contracts with SpaceX, for services from its subsidiary Starlink satellites. Newsweek reports SpaceX was awarded about $70 million for Starlink internet services in 2023.
Tesla has also benefited from government programs, including tax incentives and loans from the Department of Energy.
The Guardian reports that a $465 million low-interest loan in 2010 was critical to keeping the company alive, according to insiders.
Trump-Musk feud risked space program
10:18 , Rachel ClunElon Musk and Donald Trump’s spectacular fallout could have catastrophic consequences for the future of space travel.
The president said last week: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
In response, Musk threatened that SpaceX would decommission its Dragon spacecraft.
While Musk has now apologised for some of his comments, technology editor Andrew Griffin has examined what an ongoing dispute between the men could mean for space travel:

Tesla shares in Frankfurt were up 2.44 per cent after Musk's post.

Sources close to Musk had told Reuters his anger has started to subside, and that they believe he may want to repair his relationship with Trump.

FBI tracked foreigners visiting Musk over influence concerns, according to a report
09:28 , Rhian LubinFederal agencies were tracking foreign nationals who visited Elon Musk over concerns that they could influence the tech billionaire, according to a report.
Agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, were reportedly among the agencies surveilling foreigners who met with Musk at his U.S. properties in 2022 and 2023, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter.
Officials at the FBI and others were briefed on the investigation, The Journal reported, which focused on overseas visitors from Eastern Europe and elsewhere “who might have been trying to influence him.”
The investigation, which predates the second Trump administration, did not result in any charges, the outlet reports.

How did the feud between Musk and Trump begin?
09:15 , Rachel ClunJust last week, President Donald Trump was handing his friend and close aide Elon Musk a golden key to the White House, praising the work the tech billionaire had done for the administration.
“Elon gave an incredible service. There’s nobody like him,” Trump said in a joint press conference with Musk last week.
It seemed like a consiliatory end to their working relationship, but there were rumblings: Musk had made it clear he was deeply opposed to Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Once he was out of the White House, the world’s richest man had harsh words for Trump’s cornerstone policy.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote on X on June 3.
Two days later, Trump said he was “surprised” and “disappointed” by Musk’s comments.
“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” he said in the Oval Office.

Public apology comes after calls for investigation into Musk's alleged drug use
09:09 , Rachel ClunElon Musk’s public apology for his comments about president Donald Trump comes after former White House advisor Steve Bannon urged the administration to launch an investigation into the Tesla and SpaceX owner’s alleged drug use.
Speaking to Chuck Todd on his new streaming show, Bannon said Trump should launch a special counsel investigation into the world’s richest man.
“I think the best way to do it is as a special counsel that can kind of oversee everything. Pull the security clearance for the drugs, temporarily, investigate the whole drug situation,” Bannon said.
Bannon was referencing a New York Times report that detailed the billionaire CEO’s alleged drug use leading up to the 2024 election.

Elon Musk backtracks
09:02 , Rachel ClunElon Musk has publicly backtracked on some of his comments about the president.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk said on his X platform.
Last week, he said Donald Trump was named in files related to convicted sex offender Jeffret Epstein, and that was the reason those files had not been made public.
He also seemed to agree with an X user who called for Trump’s impeachment, retweeting a post that said: “Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him”.
