Trump mocks Bill de Blasio, says New Yorkers 'devastated he's coming home' after ending presidential campaign

NEW YORK _ President Donald Trump knows how to kick a guy when he's down.

Trump took one more shot at New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, poking fun at the "really big political news" that the mayor ended his no-chance presidential campaign Friday morning.

"(He) was polling at a solid ZERO but had tremendous room for growth," Trump tweeted minutes after de Blasio announced his withdrawal from the Democratic primary race.

"NYC is devastated, he's coming home," the president added.

The tweet was the latest evidence of Trump's somewhat obsessive interest in de Blasio's fortunes.

Despitt de Blasio's status as a rank outsider in the Democratic race, Trump tweeted abuse at him from the moment he launched his campaign in May.

The president even raised ethics concerns when he used the presidential seal as a backdrop for a video recorded on Air Force One attacking de Blasio as the "worst mayor in America."

Trump's outsized interest in de Blasio turned into one of Hizzoner's few effective campaign talking points. He often claimed that he has the ability to get under the president's skin better than rival candidates.
