President-elect Donald Trump Saturday interviewed prospective Cabinet appointees _ including Mitt Romney, rumored for secretary of state _at his golf course in New Jersey, a Trump spokeswoman said.
After a meeting that lasted about an hour, Trump emerged to shout to reporters, "It went great!"
Romney, in brief remarks, said he appreciated the chance to speak with Trump. "We had a far-reaching conversation with regards to the various theaters in the world where there are interests of the United States of real significance," he said. "We discussed those areas, and exchanged our views on those topics _ a very thorough and in-depth discussion in the time we had."
Romney left without taking questions.
He and Trump have had a rocky relationship of late.
Romney, the Republican presidential nominee defeated by Barack Obama in 2012, called Trump a "con man" and "fraud" in March. Trump sharply criticized Romney in return.
