Trump-Musk feud: Elon’s dad blames fight on fact both men are ‘tired and stressed’

Elon Musk’s father blamed fatigue and stress for the public fight between his tech billionaire son and President Donald Trump.

Errol Musk said his son had “PTSD from the White House” and made a “mistake” by publicly challenging the president, in an interview with Russian media.

"They are very tired and stressed, so you can expect something like this,” Errol Musk told the Izvestia newspaper during a visit to the Russian capital.

The comments come after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed back on the notion that a fistfight broke out between Elon Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Following a meeting in April, Bessent and Musk began trading insults, after which Musk pushed his shoulder into Bessent, Steve Bannon told The Washington Post. Bessent reportedly struck back before colleagues stepped in to break up the scuffle.

But in an interview on Fox News, Leavitt said: “I certainly wouldn't describe it as a fistfight.”

Trump has said that he has “no intention” of speaking to the “disrespectful” Musk following their public blowup over the Republican spending package up for debate in Congress.

Speaker Mike Johnson commented further on the feud between Elon Musk and Donald Trump over the “big, beautiful bill” on Sunday.

Johnson appeared on ABC’s This Week, and said: "We were disappointed, surprised."

“I'd had a lot of great interaction, discussion with him about the one big, beautiful bill to make sure he had accurate information because I was concerned that people were telling him things that just simply weren't true,” Johnson added.

“Hopefully, these two titans can reconcile.”

The tenor of Musk’s rhetoric is likely to make things more complicated, if anything, for conservative deficit hawks hoping for changes to the bill in the Senate, we explain in Inside Washington.

Sunday 8 June 2025 19:50 , Gustaf Kilander

Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders slammed President Donald Trump on Sunday during an appearance on CNN amid the president’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles following protests against immigration raids.

“We have a president who is moving this country rapidly into authoritarianism,” said Sanders. “My understanding is that the governor of California, the mayor of the city of Los Angeles, did not request the National Guard, but he thinks he has a right to do anything he wants.”

“He is suing the media who criticizes him,” he added. “He is going after law firms who have clients who were against him. He’s going after universities that teach courses that he doesn’t like. He’s threatening to impeach judges who rule against him. And he’s usurping the powers of the United States Congress. This guy wants all of the power. He does not believe in the Constitution. He does not believe in the rule of law.”

Usyk, a former undisputed world champion in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, conveyed a grim depiction of life in Ukraine, emphasising the necessity for Trump to develop a more profound understanding of the situation.

Trump press secretary rejects 'fistfight' allegation involving Musk and Bessent

01:00 , Gustaf Kilander

During an appearance on Fox News on Sunday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed back on reporting that there was a physical altercation between Elon Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon, who worked in Trump’s first term, told The Washington Post that he was informed that as Bessent and Musk exited the Oval Office following an April meeting, the pair began insulting each other.

Bessent mentioned Musk’s claim that he would find more than $1 trillion in waste and abuse of government spending, something the billionaire had not yet achieved.

“Scott said, ‘You’re a fraud. You’re a total fraud,’” Bannon told the paper.

Musk subsequently pushed his shoulder into Bessent “like a rugby player,” he added. Bessent struck back at Musk, and several people stepped in to break up the scuffle.

“Did Musk actually get physical? Was there a fistfight that he body checked the treasury secretary?” host Maria Bartiromo asked on Sunday.

“I certainly wouldn't describe it as a fistfight, Maria. It was definitely a disagreement… we’ve moved on from it,” said Leavitt.

NIH scientists publish dissent over Trump administration cuts

16:16 , Ariana Baio

More than 300 current or former National Institutes of Health employees have signed a letter rebuking the Trump administration for cutting funding to public health research, saying it will “harm the health of Americans and people across the globe.”

Citing the approximately $9.5 billion in research funding terminated by the administration, the NIH staffers said the cuts put patient health at risk and “throw away years of hard work and millions of dollars.

The letter was addressed to NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and members of Congress who oversee NIH.

Bhattacharya is scheduled to testify to the Senate appropriations committee on Tuesday about the agency’s budget.

Those who signed or endorsed the letter are asking Bhattacharya to restore grants that have been terminated or delayed, “for political reasons.” They emphasized the importance of research to close health disparity gaps, understand new diseases, and learn about the health impacts of climate change.

President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that his administration should arrest California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Trump’s comment came after he was asked if border czar Tom Homan should arrest Newsom, who has been condemning the administration for sending in the National Guard without his permission.

“I would do it if I were Tom. I think it's great. Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing. He's done a terrible job,” Trump said.

Homan said any public official who obstructs federal immigration enforcement would be arrested.

Newsom responded on social media, calling Trump’s suggestion “authoritarian.”

The Secret Service is expecting “hundreds of thousands” of attendees at the Army’s 250th anniversary military parade occurring this weekend.

“We’re preparing for an enormous turnout, hundreds of thousands of attendees,” Special Agent Matt McCool said at a press conference on Monday.

In preparation, the Secret Service, National Park, Metropolitan Police Department, FBI and more are working together to create a robust security plan.

That includes 18.5 miles of anti-scale fencing, 155 magnetometers, drones and more.
