Trump Insists Americans Are Getting What They Voted for: 'We've Been Abused'

During a televised interview at the White House, President Donald Trump insisted that Americans that voted for him were getting what they signed up for as he continues to further his agenda in ways his constituents may not expect.

Trump sat down for an interview in the Oval Office with ABC News anchor and Senior National Correspondent Terry Moran. The two discussed a wide range of topics pertaining to the 47th President's first 100 days in office, including his immigration policy, his agenda for the economy and other issues.

Moran asked the President about his campaign promises to deliver lower costs of living to constituents, stating that some of Trump's own voters were concerned about his administration's intended implementation of tariffs and how that would result in price hikes across the board.

"There is a lot of concern out there," Moran said. "People are worried, even some people who voted for you saying, 'I didn't sign up for this.' So how do you answer those concerns?"

"Well, they did sign up for it, actually. And this is what I campaigned on," Trump replied. "I said that we've been abused by other countries at levels that nobody's ever seen before ... I could've left it that way, and at some point, there would've been an implosion like nobody's ever seen. But I said, 'No, we have to fix it.' I've -- I've wanted to do this for many years."

The President continued to take credit for other price reductions he claims have gone into effect since he took office.

"They hit me the first week, 'Eggs, eggs, eggs,' like it was my fault. I said, 'I didn't cause this problem. This problem was caused by Biden. What's the problem with eggs?' And they said, 'They've doubled it.' Well, eggs are down 87% since I got involved," Trump said. "And by the way -- and there were plenty of eggs for Easter, which we just went through."

Furthermore, Trump stated his belief that the reputation of the United States benefitted from his leadership.

"The country's doing great," Trump maintained.

Moran then asked the President if he thought "the reputation of the United States has gone down under your presidency?"

"I -- no, I think it's gone way up, and I think we're a respected country again," Trump said. "We were laughed at all over the world."
