President Trump said in a Cabinet meeting Tuesday that he's "not happy" about the deal reached in a bipartisan conference Monday night to keep the government open past Feb. 15. He did not say whether or not he would support the bill.
The state of play: Lawmakers have been waiting for Trump to weigh in after a border security deal — which only includes about $1.4 billion for barrier construction — was reached Monday night. On Sunday, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said the administration would secure the border, either by reprogramming leftover government funds or by declaring a national emergency.
During the Cabinet meeting, Trump alluded to moving money around from "less important areas" to build the wall:
"I can't say I'm thrilled. ... So I can tell you that — am I happy at first glance? I just got to see it. The answer is no, I'm not. I'm not happy. But am I happy with where we're we're going? I'm thrilled, because we're supplementing things and moving things around and we're doing things that are fantastic and taking from far less — really from far less important areas. "
