President Donald Trump filed for an extension on his 2017 tax returns, the White House said Tuesday.
Trump, who took advantage of the extension last year as well, will now have until October to file his taxes with the Internal Revenue Service.
Presidents are just like every other taxpayer and must file taxes by the deadline.
"The president filed an extension for his 2017 tax return, as do many Americans with complex returns," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the New York Daily News. "He will file his tax return by the extension deadline of Oct. 15, 2018."
Due to April 15 falling on a Saturday and a local holiday falling on Monday in Washington, tax filers had until Tuesday to report their earnings to the government.
Anyone looking for a little more time can file for an extension. Each year, roughly 10 million extensions forms are filed with the IRS.
Some may have to choose that option after parts of the IRS "Direct Pay" website crashed Tuesday.
Trump's personal income taxes have been a source of controversy since the president broke with decades of precedent and refused to release a copy of his returns while running for office.
He claimed during the campaign that he was under audit and vowed to release his returns after the feds finished looking at his income.
Trump touted the business-friendly tax overhaul that the GOP-led Congress passed late last year.
"So many people are seeing the benefits of the Tax Cut Bill. Everyone is talking, really nice to see!" he tweeted Tuesday morning.
