Trump Doral announces 250 furloughs will now become permanent layoffs

MIAMI _ Trump National Doral Miami, President Donald J. Trump's Miami-Dade resort hotel and golf course, has announced 250 workers who were originally furloughed indefinitely will now be permanently laid off.

In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act notice dated May 15 and posted to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity's website Thursday, the resort said that it had envisioned stay-at-home orders expiring "after a short period."

But extended orders and closures, it said, have caused the business to "reassess (its) initial understanding of the circumstances facing the resort."

"Unfortunately, it now appears that the adverse effects of the COVID-19 outbreak upon our business will be longer and more substantial than previously was foreseeable," the notice states.

As a result, its 250 indefinite furloughs will become "permanent employee separations" effective May 15. Approximately 250 employees including part-time employees will be affected.
