Trump defends Washington's NFL team name, works in jab at Elizabeth Warren

President Donald Trump is going to the NFL culture war well again. Having lost the crowd on kneeling, he's moved up to another fight that's all but over: the racist name of the Washington team.

"They name teams out of STRENGTH, not weakness, but now" Washington and the Cleveland Indians "look like they are going to be changing their names in order to be politically correct," Trump tweeted. "Indians, like Elizabeth Warren, must be very angry right now!"

Trump is referring to Dan Snyder's football team, which is likely changing the name after a backlash from sponsors, and the Cleveland Indians, who announced they'll be reviewing their name. Washington coach Ron Rivera said Saturday night that he wants the name changed before the NFL season starts in September.

Snyder donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration, as did several other owners. Snyder's wife donated to Trump during the 2016 Republican primary.

Elizabeth Warren's ill-fated presidential campaign stumbled out of the gate last year when she took a DNA test to prove her Native ancestry, then apologized for taking the test in the first place.
