Following talks between top US and Russian officials that excluded Ukrainians, President Donald Trump made controversial statements regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump falsely claimed that he has the power to end the war and criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for not resolving the conflict sooner.

Contrary to Trump's assertions, Ukraine did not initiate the war, which began in February 2022 when Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded the country. Trump further claimed that he could have negotiated a deal that would have given Ukraine most of the land and prevented casualties, but Ukraine allegedly chose not to pursue this option.

Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump expressed his personal liking for Zelensky but emphasized the need to focus on achieving results rather than personal relationships. He baselessly stated that Zelensky has a low approval rating of 'four percent,' despite providing no evidence to support this claim.

Trump's remarks have drawn criticism for echoing Kremlin's talking points and misrepresenting the facts of the conflict in Ukraine. The war in Ukraine has resulted in significant human suffering and displacement, with international efforts ongoing to address the crisis and support the Ukrainian people.
