Trump Claims He's Stopped 'Really Bad Things' From Happening to Russia: 'Putin's Playing With Fire'

Donald Trump warned on Tuesday that Vladimir Putin is "playing with fire," claiming he has personally prevented catastrophic consequences for Russia during its war in Ukraine.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Trump has maintained a complicated public stance on the conflict, often touting his influence over global leaders while criticizing Vladimir Putin's military aggression. Over the past week, Putin has intensified aerial assaults on Ukrainian targets, prompting sharp rebukes from the international community—including from Trump himself.

In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump claimed credit for preventing "really bad things" from happening to Russia, suggesting that his intervention has kept the Kremlin from facing even more severe fallout. He warned that Putin is underestimating the consequences of his continued aggression, writing, "He's playing with fire!" Trump's remarks follow a weekend statement where he accused Putin of having "gone absolutely crazy" amid escalating drone and missile strikes in Ukraine.

"What Vladimir Putin doesn't realize is that if it weren't for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD," Trump wrote. "He's playing with fire!"

The Kremlin responded to Trump's comments by dismissing them as an "emotional overload," asserting that Putin's actions are driven by Russia's national security needs. Russian officials have largely brushed off foreign criticism while continuing their offensive in Ukraine.
