Donald Trump has called Hollywood “racist” in a war of words against the entertainment industry following the controversy surrounding new film The Hunt.
The president took aim at the industry on the White House lawn and again on Twitter, accusing it of attempting to “inflame and cause chaos”.
In two separate tweets, he wrote: “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves ‘Elite,’ but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite.
“The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos,” he continued. “They create their own violence, and then try to blame others.
“They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”
While Trump didn’t specifically name the film he was referring to, it’s strongly believed its Universal’s new horror thriller The Hunt, which has had its marketing pulled following the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio last weekend.
The film, written by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, stars Hilary Swank as a “deplorable” being hunted by so-called elites.
Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts and GLOW star Betty Gilpin also star.
Trump had also earlier lashed out at Hollywood during a White House press conference ahead of a fundraiser he was attending.
“They treat conservatives, Republicans, totally different than they treat others,” he said.
Before becoming president, Trump appeared in several films and TV shows and used to request cameos in exchange for cameras being permitted to use his buildings for filming locations.
Lindelof’s new TV show – his first since The Leftovers, which Zobel directed multiple episodes of, – is a remixed version of Alan Moore’s Watchmen starring Regina King and Jeremy Irons.
