Graffiti spelling out ‘Trump’ and ‘MAGA’ - an acronym for ‘Make America Great Again’ - were daubed on headstones in a Jewish cemetery in Michigan.

Six headstones were vandalised with letters spelling the slogans, police said.

The incident occurred before US President Donald Trump's rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on the same night, CBS reported.

Police Sgt. John Wittkowski told CNN that there was no footage of the incident due to the graveyard being out of the way.

He added that the headstones were probably spray-painted three to five days before the vandalism was discovered.

The act was condemned by Michigan’s Democratic Jewish Caucus as an attempt to intimidate Jewish voters ahead of the US election.

A statement from the group said: "It has failed. Grand Rapids' Jewish community will not be cowed by this vile attack on Ahavas Israel.

"Instead, Jews in Grand Rapids, the State of Michigan, and across the country will head to the polls (Tuesday) to vote against this president and the hatred, violence, and antisemitism he so callously incites."
