'Truly shocked' - Nottingham Forest defender sent message after cryptic post

Nottingham Forest fans were left "shocked" and "gutted" after Yuri Ribeiro appeared to confirm he is leaving the club.

The Portguese defender's current contract at the City Ground is due to expire.

There had been talk of the 24-year-old full-back being offered a new deal by Forest.

But Ribeiro posted what seemed to be a farewell message on social media on Wednesday.

"Playing in England has always been a dream," he said. "Thanks @officialnffc for allowing me that.

"We wanted more this season but it’s not always possible.

"I'm sure this club will achieve what it deserves in the future.

"For me it was an incredible experience! I've learned a lot this year!

"Thank you all for the support!"

Forest are yet to confirm their end-of-season retained list.

Along with Ribeiro, six other senior Forest players are out of contract - Abdoulaye Diallo, Michael Hefele, Michael Dawson, Sammy Ameobi, Glenn Murray and Samba Sow.

Ribeiro was thought to be one of the most likely to extend his stay at the club.

He has made 57 appearances for Forest since signing from Benfica in the summer of 2019.

He featured 26 times for Chris Hughton's side during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring once, in a 2-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday in December.

Forest supporters took to social media to give their reaction to Ribeiro's latest comments.

"I'm truly shocked at this news," said one on Twitter. "Think you’ve proven enough to deserve an extension. All the best Yuri."

Another tweeted: "Great performer for us. If this is a goodbye message, I wish you all the best for the future."

Meanwhile, a third fan added: "Gutted to see you go. Best LB we've had in a decade."
