'True legend, A role model' - Tributes pour in for Norman Hunter after death of Leeds United icon

Leeds United fans have been paying their tributes to Norman Hunter, after the club legend's death was confirmed earlier this morning.

Hunter passed away aged 76.

The club posted a statement confirming the sad news, saying: "Norman was taken to hospital last week after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and despite continuing to battle and the best efforts of NHS staff, he sadly lost his fight earlier this morning."

Hunter made 726 appearances in all competitions for the Whites and was an integral member of Don Revie’s iconic teams during his 15-year stay at Elland Road.

The statement added: "He leaves a huge hole in the Leeds United family, his legacy will never be forgotten and our thoughts are with Norman’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

The former centre-back was also a part of England's 1966 World Cup winning squad and had playing stints at Bristol City and Barnsley before he hung up his boots in 1982.

That came after two seasons of being a player-manager at Oakwell, where he remained as manager until 1984. Stints in the dugouts at Rotherham United and Bradford followed.

Below, we have selected just a few of the many tributes that have poured in since the news broke.
