True freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels to start for Arizona State

It’s not often we talk about other teams here at the SpartansWire, but this news felt deserving of a post.

Arizona State has named true freshman Jayden Daniels as its starting quarterback.

That means Daniels will open his college career playing lowly Kent State and Sacramento State at home, before hitting the road to take on perhaps the best defense in the country in Michigan State.

It’s not surprising a team nicknamed the “Sun Devils” believes in baptism by fire.

Daniels is a talented kid; top 50 recruit, 4-stars, top-five dual-threat quarterback. Still, there may not be a quicker and more aggressive jump in talent possible than essentially going from high school football to on the road against Michigan State.

Another true freshman, Joey Yellen, was named the backup QB so unless something crazy happens, Michigan State is going to face a true freshman quarterback when ASU visits Spartan Stadium on September 14th.
