UPDATED: True freshman Nick Samac getting first career start

In a year of near-constant shuffling, the Michigan State offensive line is about to get a new look.

According to a tweet from his old high school coach, true freshman Nick Samac is going to be getting his first collegiate start today when MSU takes on Illinois (3:30 PM, FS1).

If Samac does indeed draw the start it will be his third time seeing game action this season. His prior action had been in reserve and mop-up duty. Players that have yet to redshirt can appear in four games and still retain their redshirt.

Samac was listed as co-starter at center this week with Blake Bueter. Starting center Matt Allen is out for today’s game with an injury. Mark Dantonio didn’t provide a timeline for Allen’s absence other than to say it wasn’t season ending.

Elsewhere on the line true freshman J.D. Duplain is newly listed as a co-starter at left guard with Luke Campbell. Duplain has already appeared in five games this season, burning his redshirt.

UPDATE: Mark Dantonio confirmed on the pregame radio show that Samac would be getting the start.
