Truckie charged over horror crash which killed young boys

A truck driver has been charged after a horror head-on crash with a family vehicle left two boys dead and their brother seriously injured.

The two boys, aged nine and 12, were found dead at the scene of the crash on the Newell Highway, 12 kilometres north of Dubbo, in the early hours of May 6.

Police said the 4WD they were travelling in had collided with a B-double truck.

Their younger brother, who was four years old at the time, survived the crash but suffered internal injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The parents of the three boys were treated for minor injuries at the scene and the 53-year-old truck driver, who was treated for serious injuries, was airlifted to hospital.

The truck driver, who is from Queensland, was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, causing bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning death and not keeping left of the dividing line.

He will be expected to appear in Dubbo Local Court on August 30.
