A Sydney truckie will serve out a 12-month sentence in the community after a fatal road rage incident with a taxi driver last year.
North Strathfield man Morgan Haverfield-Price pleaded guilty to negligent driving occasioning death and reckless driving after the roadside altercation in Chatswood on December 1, 2021.
Haverfield-Price, who was then 32, and the then 57-year old driver of the Ford Focus taxi began arguing after turning right into Fullers Road.
The taxi driver exited his vehicle and grabbed the front passenger side of the truck. When Haverfield-Price attempted to drive away, the other man lost his grip and was struck by the vehicle.
He died at the scene.
On Thursday at Burwood Local Court, magistrate Andrew Miller deemed a sentence of imprisonment for 12 months to be appropriate, but said this could be served in the community through an intensive correction order.
Haverfield-Price was also ordered to complete 150 hours of community service.
