Truckers will descend on Dublin in their thousands for 24-hour long protest against fuel prices

Irish truckers will descend upon Dublin next Monday in their thousands for a 24-hour long protest against skyrocketing fuel prices.

Truckers caused traffic mayhem on Dublin roads and clogged up the city's busiest routes last month.

And the plan from the Irish Truckers and Haulage Association Against Fuel Prices are planning to do it again - and bigger this time - on Monday, December 13.

During the last protest, the M50 was moving "at walking pace" and Kildare Street and Molesworth Street were shut for part of the day.

The drivers are seeking "lower fuel costs at the pump and at home" and have been joined in sympathy by a number of other groups protesting against rising fuel rates.

In a statement on Facebook this morning, the truckers association said that the protest is going to be a "big one" with "thousands of vehicles joining the protest from all corners of the country".

They said: "Good morning folks, this is going to be a big one.

"We have thousands of vehicles joining the protest from all corners of the country. A lot of the bigger firms are on board this time.

"We have added a few meeting points in addition to last day leaving from Cork and Galway these will have a massive turn out. If you wish to join please contact the page.

"We are going with a slightly different plan that will be a lot more affective however meeting points and routes will be very similar to phase 1.

"This is going to last more than 24 hours so make sure to prepare and overnight bag and plenty of food and water. We will have help from the public supplying food and refreshments also.

"If you plan to stay in Dublin the night before please contact us for a place to park up.

"The days are counting, get yourself prepared and make this a day to remember."
