Truckers say December protest is on the cards and warn 'this will be massive'

The Irish Truckers and Haulage Association Against Fuel Prices has said that a 'massive' second protest during the first week of December is on the cards.

They warned that the demonstration would go ahead if they "don't get a change".

They said on social media: "All Hauliers, Truckers , Buses, Taxis , Fisheries, Professional Drivers, Couriers and members of the public. the first week in December could be the next one if we don't get a change so keep in mind.

"This will be massive."

The truckers caused traffic chaos in Dublin on Wednesday and clogged up the city's busiest routes.

At peak times, the M50 was moving "at walking pace" and Kildare Street and Molesworth Street were shut for part of the day.

They are seeking "lower fuel costs at the pump and at home".

The group said in a statement ahead of Wednesday's demonstration: "We want lower costs and lower taxes, rebates are no good. We want the government to address the nation on this cause.

"This is for the people of Ireland, for our future and for our kids.

"If we don't get a change a lot of small operators will be out of business sooner than you think.

"If we don't get an answer we will be back in bigger numbers for a week before Christmas. We want a peaceful protest and no trouble, if you plan to cause trouble stay at home.

"We will have no spokespeople as like the last time they were told to back off. We are the people of Ireland you need to address us as a whole."
