Truck tribute to rally legend Colin McRae

THE 25th anniversary of Colin McRae winning the World Rally Championship has been marked in a unique way.

Ally Shaw came up with the idea of painting a truck with images of the great Scottish rally driver and convinced company owner James Gibb to do it.

The result is an amazing tribute to the 1995 world champion finished in the same blue and yellow livery of his Subaru Impreza WRC.

Helping to unveil the truck, run by Five Star Vehicle Deliveries at Knockhill, was Jimmy McRae, Colin’s dad, who brought along the very car that Colin used to win the title. The artwork was airbrushed by Alan Smallwood.

Lorry driver Ally said: “Colin is such an inspiration to young drivers in Scotland and around the world. I wanted to mark the anniversary of him being crowned World Rally champion and this is the result.

“People love it because everyone knows who Colin is and they all want to take photos and talk.

"It should have been the McRae Rally Challenge at Knockhill over the weekend, which was cancelled because of coronavirus restrictions, so revealing the truck was a chance to remind everyone of Colin’s talent and the huge influence he’s had.”
