A delivery truck collided head-on with a school van, killing the van driver and injuring 15 students, in Pa Daet district of Chiang Rai on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred as the truck was overtaking another vehicle on a two-lane road at Mai Tai Moo 6 village in tambon Pa Daet and was reported about 7.20am, police said.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and reported finding a six-wheel parcel delivery truck with Bangkok licence plates overturned on the road. A school van with Chiang Rai licence plates and its front crushed in was stopped nearby.

The van driver was dead behind the wheel, trapped inside the wreckage. Fifteen students were injured. Rescue workers released all the students and took the injured to a nearby hospital.

Police said the van was taking 20 students from Wang village in tambon San Makha to Pa Daet Witthayakhom School.

The delivery truck had pulled out to overtake a car when it collided with the school van.

Police were investigating.
