Truck hits motorcycles, 3 killed, 4 injured

PATHUM THANI: Three people were killed and four others injured when a small truck crashed into two motorcycles and a sidecar in Thanyaburi district early on Wednesday.

The accident occurred shortly before 6am at the mouth of Soi 45 on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok road in tambon Prachathipat, Pol Lt Col Sawat Kongkaew, an investigator at Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station, said.

Police, rescuers and a doctor from Prachathipat Hospital were rushed to the scene.

Nopporn Charoenboon, 33, the driver of the Isuzu truck, told the police he had swerved to the left to avoid hitting a trailer-truck near the entry to the side street. His vehicle hit two motorcycles and a motorcycle sidecar from behind.

Mr Nopporn was injured in the collision. Of the people travelling on the motorcycles and the sidecar, three were killed and three injured. All of the vehicles involved were damaged.

Killed were Wichit Kaewkalong, 50, a motorcycle-taxi driver from Roi Et province, a woman identified as Wanna Daengduang, 39, from Phetchabun, and Boonriab Laboon, 69, from Nonthaburi.

The injured were admitted to Thammasat Chalerm Phra Kiat Hospital. The bodies of those killed were sent to the same hospital for post-mortem examination. 

Police were investigating.
