Traffic management crews became firefighters after the back of a truck caught alight on the Federal Highway on Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out on the back of a truck carrying kitchen cabinetry near Lake George in the southbound lanes just pass the Weereewa lookout about 8.30am.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said emergency crews were called to the scene of the fire.

The fire was put out about 9am.
