Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a truck at Kurri Kurri on Wednesday.
Emergency crews were called to Lang Street just after 7am following reports that a pedestrian had been struck.
Paramedics tried to revive Edward Gordon, a local man aged in his 70s, but he died at the scene.
The male truck driver was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing and police set up a crime scene.
The truck was a Woolworth's grocery delivery vehicle.
A Woolworth's spokesperson said the company outsourced its delivery operations to Linfox, but was "ready to assist in any way we can".
"This is a tragic event and our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
"Our transport partner Linfox is working closely with the authorities and has commenced its own investigation into the incident."
A Linfox spokesperson said the company was "working closely with police" to assist with the investigation.
The spokesperson said the truck driver was on his way to work when the tragedy occurred and had not yet started his shift.
"We are deeply saddened to learn of the incident in Kurri Kurri this morning," the spokesperson said.
"Our thoughts are with the individual's family and friends at this difficult time."
Lang Street was closed between Mitchell Avenue and Greta Street for part of the day.
Hunter Valley police are asking for anyone with information about the incident or with footage from the Lang Street area around 7am on Wednesday to contact them.
