TRP scam: Mumbai police arrests former BARC chief operating officer Romil Ramgarhia

The Mumbai police have arrested Romil Ramgarhia, the former chief operating officer of the Broadcast Audience Research Council, in connection with the TRP scam case. Ramgarhia is the first person associated with BARC to be arrested in the case.

Ramgarhia stepped down as COO in July this year after being associated with BARC for six years. His arrest comes one day after the chief executive officer of Republic got bail after being arrested in connection with the case.

According to the Mumbai police, some channels, including Republic, are involved in this case, which involves the "manipulation" of ratings, or TRPs. Subsequently, BARC announced the suspension of ratings of news channels for three months to “review its already stringent protocols and further augment them”.

Earlier this month, Republic's chief operating officer Priya Mukherjee got anticipatory bail in the same case. On December 5, the sessions court had granted bail to Republic TV's assistant vice president, Ghanshyam Singh, who was arrested in the same case on November 10.
