What’s Going To Happen
This is Troy’s chance to get into the Sun Belt race. Lose, and that’s it. With too much traffic ahead, and with Appalachian State still to deal with, it’s a must-win game or else hope for a whole lot of help.
Georgia State was stunned by Texas State a few weeks ago, but kicked it into high gear offensively over the last three games, stunning Army last week and staying alive in the East with good wins over Arkansas State and Coastal Carolina.
But it still has to deal with Appalachian State, too. That’s coming in a few weeks. First, it has to get by a strong Troy team with a good enough defensive front to be a problem, and a terrific passing game that keeps things moving.
The Panthers don’t get into the backfield enough, but they do know how to control the clock and take over games. They’ve been improving by the week, but now they have to get ready for a Troy offense that’s great at getting into shootouts.
The Trojans are overdue for a big win over a decent team – Campbell, Akron and South Alabama aren’t exactly a group of killers – but it’s not happening.
Georgia State and QB Dan Ellington will control the clock just enough to save a defense that’s about to get bombed on. Call this an elimination game in the East with the home team surviving and advancing.
