Troy Parrott suffers another injury setback just hours after first senior Ireland call-up

Troy Parrott has suffered another injury setback tonight - just hours after labelling his first senior Ireland call-up ‘a dream come true’.

The rising Tottenham star, 17, scored twice in an Under-23 clash with Manchester City in London but was forced off midway through the second-half after a tackle from behind.

It's unclear how long he'll be out for but it could scupper hopes he had of making Mick McCarthy's squad proper for the Euro 2020 qualifier against Switzerland.

While McCarthy named Parrott in a 40-man provisional squad earlier today, he warned the Spurs striker that he was more likely to be on Under-21 duty than face the Swiss.

Speaking before news of Parrott's latest injury, McCarthy had said: "I'm not going to deprive Stephen Kenny of players when I'm not going to use them.

"If Troy gets in for Spurs and he scores a few goals and he's brilliant, I might have a different (thought) process on that.

"I was interested to see him in pre-season games and more interested to see that he wasn't involved in the first game of season.

"If he gets in (the Spurs team) in the next couple of games, he's going to cause me a problem and cause Stephen a problem. He's not there yet."
