Troy Parrott's first words after signing new three-year contract at Tottenham

Tottenham fans received some welcome news on Friday morning after Troy Parrott committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Much has been made of the young striker over the past 18 months after scoring goal after goal for the club's youngsters.

Parrott's sensational form in front of goal saw him earn a place in Mauricio Pochettino's squad for the club's pre-season tour of Asia in July and he certainly didn't disappoint against the likes of Juventus and Manchester United.

Training with the first team at Hotspur Way week in, week out, the Irishman finally got his chance with the senior side in September as he made his professional debut in the shock Carabao Cup defeat at Colchester United.

Jose Mourinho full press conference after Southampton win

However, he had to wait just over two months for his next appearance as he came off the bench late on in the 5-0 drubbing of Burnley at the start of December.

Jose Mourinho has resisted the temptation of playing Parrott in Harry Kane's absence but we should be seeing a bit more of him now that he has signed a contract with the club until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The news has gone down extremely well with the club's supporters and Parrott has since taken to Instagram to send a message following his new deal.

"Delighted to have signed until 2023. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds. #COYS," he said.

Despite only making two appearances for Spurs this season, Parrott is now a full Republic of Ireland international after making his debut for his country against New Zealand in November.

The young striker was on the bench in midweek against Southampton in the FA Cup but he wasn't brought on by Mourinho as late goals from Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min clinched a 3-2 win,

Parrott will be hoping he is back in the squad when the team face Aston Villa on Sunday, February 16 after the winter break.
