Troy Parrott praise, Pape Matar Sarr's waiting game but striker makes debut in Spurs loan latest

Tottenham Hotspur's loan army is growing with more young players heading out in the January transfer window

This month Spurs have recalled Kion Etete and Jamie Bowden from their loans at Northampton Town and Oldham Athletic respectively, with the former then sent back out a higher level at Cheltenham Town.

Jack Clarke has also headed out to Sunderland in League One this week, while young midfielder Nile John has gone to Charlton Athletic in the same division.

More are expected to follow them out of the loan door in the remaining days of this month, including a few more from the first team group.

So how exactly did the current loanees get on the past week, both for their clubs or internationally? and what's the latest on their futures? football.london takes a look.

Pape Matar Sarr (Metz)

Summer signing Sarr is waiting to make his impact for Senegal at this year's Africa Cup of Nations.

The 19-year-old had received the call up for the tournament in Cameroon, but was absent for his country's opening group game against Zimbabwe after testing positive for Covid.

However, he linked up with his international team-mates after his isolation period and has been an unused substitute in the three games since in the competition.

The Metz midfielder will now be hoping to get some minutes in the quarter-final against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

In terms of his club football, Sarr, who has played in a variety of midfield roles this campaign, has found himself in and out of the Metz starting line-up since October.

The youngster has one goal and one assist from his 19 appearances for Metz this term.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)

Carter-Vickers has enjoyed one of Spurs' most successful loan spells this season.

The 24-year-old has been a near ever-present for Celtic since making the move across the border on the summer transfer window's deadline day.

He has made 26 appearances for the Scottish giants since then, scoring twice and laying on one assist, playing European football as well with his side.

On Wednesday night, the centre-back helped Celtic see off Heart of Midlothian on the road with a 2-1 victory.

Carter-Vickers might not have represented the USA since 2019 but his performances have come to the attention of those across the Atlantic.

"We are definitely monitoring Cameron," Berhalter told Record Sport. "We have a lot of competition at the centre back position, but we think he is performing well and he is definitely on our radar."

Celtic have an option to purchase Carter-Vickers at the end of his loan spell.

Troy Parrott (MK Dons)

Parrott has been getting plenty of minutes under his belt for MK Dons this week.

The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international played 75 minutes of the 1-0 defeat home at the weekend and then he played the full encounter as MK won 1-0 at Burton Albion.

Parrott earned praise from the local press for his performance on Tuesday night, getting a 7.5 in the MK Citizen's player ratings.

"His best game for Dons for a while. Lively, enthusiastic, he linked well with Harvie on the left and hit the post in the opening half," they wrote.

The teenager has four goals and five assists from his 27 appearances in all competitions for the League One outfit so far this season.

Kion Etete (Cheltenham Town)

Etete made his debut for his new club at the weekend.

The 20-year-old came off the bench in the final 20 minutes to get his first taste of League One football as Cheltenham lost 1-0 at Rotherham.

Etete scored six goals and contributed two assists in his 23 matches for Northampton before picking up an injury just as he was really finding his groove and then being recalled by Spurs.

Now the big striker will be looking to make his mark at a higher level as he continues his football education.
