Troy Parrott looking to learn from Tottenham legend Robbie Keane at international level

Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott has revealed how he is tapping into the the experience of a club legend as he looks to make the step to senior level at Spurs.

Parrott, 17, was included in a Premier League squad for the first time against Everton earlier this month and will make his senior debut for the Republic of Ireland when they take on New Zealand on Thursday night.

The striker has started once for Mauricio Pochettino's struggling Spurs this season, in the Carabao Cup penalty shootout defeat to Colchester, but has been flying at international level.

Since making his first appearance for the Republic of Ireland U21s in September, Parrott has notched three goals in as many games. Now moving up to the seniors, Parrott is learning from coach Robbie Keane, looking to pick the brains of the Spurs star who scored 121 goals in 300 appearances for the club.

"He was a top, top player," said Parrott. "So it's good to have people like that in and around - and obviously we play in the same position - that I can learn from and take advice from and just listen in and try to tap into his knowledge."

The youngster has gone through a quick progression at international level, but is not phased by the challenge.

"I'm not planning on stopping now," he told FAI TV.

"For me, it's about scoring goals. That's all I want to do, to be honest. It stands out when people look at it and say, 'he scored another goal' or 'he scored and got an assist'.

"If someone can score, then I think it helps to go up the levels quicker and then obviously when I went to the 21s, I scored for them again on my debut, so it was good."
