Troy Deeney lists top 5 current Premier League No.9s - with no Man Utd or Arsenal stars

Troy Deeney has offered up the names he thinks are the top five centre-forwards in the Premier League right now.

The Watford captain was relegated from the top-flight with the Hornets last season, but prior to that he hit 47 goals across five Premier League seasons with the Hertfordshire club, leading many to claim that he should have been called up by Engand.

As an old-fashioned, conventional No.9, Deeney knows a thing or two about how to play in the position in the Premier League, and speaking to talkSPORT he offered up his top five front men in the division right now, with no room for anyone from either Arsenal or Manchester United.

Stating that these were "No.9s, not wide men, not left centre-forwards, straight through the middle", Deeney went for the following:

5. Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)

"Works hard, doesn’t get as many goals as he probably should considering the team he plays for, but also links the play really well.

"He’s the link between [Mohamed] Salah and [Sadio] Mane that allows them to get the most goals because he will drag people in when he comes short."

4. Raul Jimenez (Wolves)

"Number four on the list I’m going for [Raul] Jimenez, I think he’s a very good player, again work-rate across the front is remarkable, doesn’t give defenders a moments peace.

"He can link play, score right foot, left foot and I think he’s got the ability to grow and to be a much better all-round player.

"He’s only going to get better and Wolves will have a problem keeping him if they don’t get in the top six in the next 18 months or so."

3. Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

"Number three, Jamie Vardy.

"I think Vardy is a thorn in everyone’s side, you can see that with [his performances against] Man City and Arsenal in recent weeks.

"But I think more importantly, whenever he’s not in the Leicester team they look like a completely different team.

He adds a different dimension, a killer instinct and naturally always does his best to get in behind and score goals, very good finisher."

2. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

"Number two, I would say Aguero.

"He is the ultimate poacher, always in the right place, right foot, left foot, tap-ins, worldies, he can do the lot.

"He’s a big reason for the success that Man City have had in recent years and I think he will still be there for the next couple of years to move forward before [Gabriel] Jesus takes over."

1. Harry Kane (Tottenham)

"Number one, I would go for Harry Kane.

"I think he’s the best No.9 that’s about in the Premier League at the moment and you could argue in world football with [Robert] Lewandowski and [Karim] Benzema probably giving him a run for his money.

"Scores a lot of goals and he’s adding assists to his game now as we’re seeing with Son so he’s only going to get better and he’s a great captain as well not only for his club but his country."
