Troy Deeney has message after helping Watford end Liverpool bid to surpass Arsenal's Invincibles

It was a night to remember for Watford as they became the first side to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season.

The Hornets put in a stunning display at Vicarage Road to win 3-0 against Jurgen Klopp's Reds, who had come into the game unbeaten in 44 games in the top flight, going back to January 2019.

In inflicting a first defeat of the league campaign on the Reds, Watford in turn did a huge favour to Arsenal, whose Invincibles record was under threat with Liverpool romping towards a first title in 30 years.

Klopp's side were looking to be on course to match the accomplishment of Arsenal's side in the 2003/04 season, when Arsene Wenger's men went the whole Premier League season unbeaten to become 'The Invincibles'.

Arteta believes Aubameyang doesn't need titles to be considered world-class

There was some irony though in the fact that one of the scorers for Watford was captain Troy Deeney, who has previously angered Arsenal fans with his comments about the Gunners, who he once claimed "lacked the cojones" to compete with the Hornets after a win against Wenger's side in October 2017.

But Deeney, who scored the third goal of the game at Vicarage Road after an Ismaila Sarr double , was clearly delighted with the performance of his Watford side against Liverpool, with the Hornets skipper taking to social media to post about the win.

In his post, published on his official Twitter account, Deeney described it as the "best performance from a Watford side."

Deeney was also full of praise for two-goal hero Sarr, who has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal, prior to his transfer to Watford last summer.

Sarr now has six goals in 20 appearances for the Hornets since making the move from Rennes.
