Troy Deeney aims veiled dig at 'proper Championship teams' Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City

Watford striker Troy Deeney has claimed that his side have been ‘old manned’ during their last two Championship games against Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City.

Forest hosted the Hornets at the City ground last Wednesday, with the game ending in a 0-0 draw, a point which ended Foret’s run of three losses in a row.

Watford hosted Cardiff City at the weekend, falling to a 1-0 home defeat against the Bluebirds thanks to Kieffer Moore’s 43rd-minute goal.

Following that defeat, Deeney said that his team must do better in situations against teams that are ‘horrible to play against’, referencing both the game against Cardiff and the clash vs Forest.

“I thought we got old-manned and by that I mean there were old professionals going down, making it difficult and being horrible to play against,” he said after the Cardiff loss (via HiveLive ).

"It was a proper Championship 1-0 away win so if you're that team you're very happy with that.

"If you to continue to lose these sorts of games you're going to be in a very difficult place moving forward.

“They weren't great but they knew what they came here for and they did it very well.”

The game vs Cardiff was played in front of 2000 fans, but Deeney said that performances have to be better, referring to the clash vs Forest.

“For the fans to be back it's great and we appreciate all the noise they make but we have to do better and there's no reason for the two performances in the last week,” he added.

"We've been old manned against two proper Championship teams."

Watford are in seventh place in the Championship table, level on points with sixth-placed Brentford as they aim to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
