Troy Aikman seemed awfully bummed that he was stuck calling the Eagles-Bucs game

With the expanded NFL playoffs new for this year, the league’s broadcasting schedule isn’t following the typical Fox-NFC, CBS-AFC affiliations. So, for Sunday’s NFC Wild Card matchup between the Bucs and Eagles, Fox opted to send its top crew of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to that game while CBS would get the Niners-Cowboys NFC matchup in the 4:30 p.m. window.

Well, we now know that Aikman wasn’t exactly pumped about that decision.

The Bucs-Eagles game ended up being a complete dud from a competitive standpoint. The Bucs jumped to a 31-0 lead before the Eagles added a couple late scores to make the game appear competitive. It was not. The Bucs won, 31-15, and it was never in doubt.

When it came time to discuss the upcoming Niners-Cowboys game, Aikman didn’t hide his disappointment about being stuck in Tampa for a blowout.

Aikman said:

“It’s gonna be a great game. I mean, a really good game. I think there’s a lot of people who would like to be calling that game. But should be a lot of fun.”

The laugh from Buck said it all right there. This was basically Aikman:

To be fair, it’s tough to imagine anyone — outside of Bucs fans — enjoying the boring blowout to start Sunday’s playoff slate. You can’t really blame Aikman for wishing he was in Arlington.
