Troy Aikman gets feisty on Twitter over unflattering comparison to Patrick Mahomes

Troy Aikman seems a little bitter about getting compared to Patrick Mahomes in a tweet which celebrated the Kansas City Chiefs’ torrid production in his early career.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current FOX Sports analyst responded to a tweet on Tuesday which stated that “ICYMI: ‘Patrick Mahomes has thrown 36% of Troy Aikman’s career touchdowns, in about 8% of the games.'”

Aikman wrote “iCYMI: Talk to me when when he has 33% of my Super Bowl Titles.”

Aikman has three Super Bowls over his 12-year career, and Mahomes has zero over his three-year career. And so follows the endless debate as to what’s more important: Super Bowls or career stats.

Mahomes was one game away from the Super Bowl in his first year as a starter in 2018. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bound to win a Lombardi Trophy in the coming years, but Mahomes shows few signs of slowing. While the Patriots are one of the most impressive teams in the NFL (every year), it may not be long before Mahomes has 33% of Aikman’s Super Bowl titles. It may be as soon as February.

The Chiefs quarterback is just getting started, and so it may be a bit premature to knock him for lacking Super Bowl rings. Let’s see how Mahomes fares when he announces retirement.
