Troubled former Premier League footballer Marcus Bent caught speeding on Princess Parkway

Troubled former Premier League star Marcus Bent has been fined for speeding in Manchester.

The 40-year-old, who is is now retired but played for a host of clubs including Everton, Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers, was caught doing 50mph in a 40mph zone on Princess Parkway in June last year.

Manchester Magistrates' Court heard how Bent pleaded guilty online and indicated that he had sent his licence and a fixed penalty fee to the DVLA.

The fine was paid, however, his licence was not received and as a result Bent's case landed him in court.

The former striker listed his address as an apartment on Deansgate but he did not attend the hearing on Friday morning.

It went ahead in his absence.

Bent was fined £70 by magistrates plus a £30 victim surcharge and had three points put on his licence.

Earlier this year Bent was declared bankrupt at the High Court, capping a spectacular fall from grace.

The former England U21 international spent the last years of his professional career playing in Indonesia for Mitra Kukar, but hasn't been registered at any club since leaving Southern Combination Division One side Wick in 2017, the Mirror reported.

He received a fine and a 12-month suspended sentence.
