Troubled Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton files for divorce in Texas

April 18--REPORTING FROM HOUSTON -- Josh Hamilton's troubles are not limited to the substance-abuse relapse that has sparked an ugly dispute with the Angels and owner Arte Moreno. The outfielder and his wife, Katie, are in the process of getting a divorce, the Dallas Morning News reported Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton, who turns 34 in May, reportedly filed for the divorce in Tarrant County, Texas, in late February, right around the time his relapse became public. The couple has been married since 2004 and has four daughters, ages 3 to 14.

Hamilton has been at the Houston-area ranch of a friend since at least early February, rehabilitating from Feb. 4 right-shoulder surgery.

He has not been with the Angels all season, but several players met Hamilton on Thursday, an off day before a series against the Astros, and reported the former five-time All-Star to be in excellent physical condition, good spirits and eager to return to the field.

According to the Morning News, Hamilton outlined 34 requests in his petition. Among them: prohibit Katie from using the Maserati and 1972 Chevrolet Blazer in his possession; prohibit her from "hiding" the children from him; prohibit her from making disparaging remarks against him or his family; prohibit someone who has an intimate relationship with her from staying in the same home as the children overnight.

Katie Hamilton submitted a general denial to Josh's petition in March. The couple agreed not to communicate with each other as the case proceeds.

The paper also reported that court records say Hamilton can't see the children without supervision and that he is prohibited from going to the couple's properties in Westlake, Texas, Valley Mills, Texas, and Newport Coast.

The Times reported Saturday that the Hamiltons' $16.5-million home in Newport Coast went up for sale on Friday.

Katie Hamilton was reportedly cast in "Real Housewives of Orange County" for its 10th season, which is scheduled to air this month, but it is unclear whether or not the divorce proceedings will impact her spot on the reality television show.
